Gill Cox
Experimental Painting and
Mark-making Workshop

Saturday 28th March, 10am to 4pm in the Pavilion, Lechlade
Picture
Ornate bowl on table painted in acrylics with rags; Robert Marchant

Short Report

An informal and untaught experimental workshop was held in the Pavilion on Saturday 28th March.

The general theme was a loose, experimental approach to acrylics trying out techniques that would be considered different to the norm. Most students focused on an ornate bowl still life. They painted along together using rags and other materials that were to hand. Others used pastels, abstract mark-making or applied printed papers.

Thanks to Gill for the short report and for taking the photograph above and those in the following gallery.

Gill wrote an introduction to this experimental session for participants:

This workshop will offer you the opportunity to discover ways of experimenting outside your comfort zone. Using charcoal, pastels, acrylics, oils, brushes or rags, and with no fixed subject matter, you can produce anything you like on paper, canvas or board. Please bring your own acrylics, oil paints, watercolours, charcoal, pastels, pens, paper, water pot, brushes, kitchen paper or old rags - and zest-it if using oils. Also a tabletop easel if you prefer, and even unused supplies of materials which you have never known what to do with. You will need something to cover the table, plus latex gloves to keep your hands clean. Boards will be provided to work on.

The aim of the day is to be creative and to enjoy sharing techniques and ideas with each other.
