Christmas Lunch at Wrag Barn Golf Club on Friday 12th December
Over 40 members and their guests enjoyed another excellent three course Christmas lunch followed by coffee/tea and mints. Although it was a bit damp when we arrived, the sun eventually came out and there were lovely views of the golf course from the bright and spacious upstairs dining room.
There was plenty to talk about and diners lingered until 3pm. Brian Britton (LAS Chair) thanked the Wrag Barn staff for the great food and service, and Gill Cox for again organising this very splendid annual event. He then talked about the recent donation by the Society (from funds raised at various sales including "Little Gems" at the annual Exhibition) to The Prospect Hospice, Wroughton (near Swindon). The Society were invited to send representatives to the Hospice to formally present the cheque (reprinted on a large board) so that photographs could be taken for publicity purposes. Brian, accompanied by Michelle Mason, visited the Hospice yesterday (Thursday 11th December). Brian conveyed the thanks of the Hospice to the Society, and to all of its members, for this generous donation which is being repeated for the third consecutive year. The Hospice emphasised the importance of regular donations because it enables them to plan ahead with more confidence.
Brian then talked about the founding of the Society early in 1986 and the upcoming 40th anniversary. One of the founders, and a past President of the Society, is Ann Snow. Ann, who was at the meal, was presented with a lovely pink poinsettia plant by Brian and Zoe (photographs follow).
