Visit to Buscot Park - "The Faringdon [Art] Collection"
Talk and House Tour hosted by Lord Faringdon, LAS Patron
Tuesday 12 April 2022, 1.30pm to 4.30pm at the Theatre, House and [Tea] Marquee
Our Patron, Lord Faringdon, hosted an excellent meeting on Tuesday 12th April at Buscot Park. Over 40 members enjoyed a talk in the art deco theatre about the Faringdon Art Collections in Buscot House, the Dower House at Barnsley Park (Glos) and town house at Brompton Square, London. This was followed by a tour of Buscot House for around 30 members with Lord Faringdon assisted by Lucinda, his daughter-in-law. During this tour, the remainder of the group enjoyed a walk around the park and walled gardens which were immaculate. All members then arrived at the marquee, opened especially for us, for a very special tea. There were so many lovely sandwiches, cakes and nibbles that, despite our best efforts, the group were defeated by the size of the spread. However, swiftly produced "doggy bags" came to the rescue and members went away laden with lots of goodies to enjoy later at home with friends and family.
Enormous thanks to Lord and Lady Faringdon, and Lucinda, for their generosity and time hosting this wonderful event which members will remember for a long time to come. Thanks also to the caterers, for providing a great tea and such friendly service, and our Secretary, Brian Britton, for arranging this event with Lord Faringdon.

Notice sent to members by email, and posted on the LAS website, 17 February 2022, for reference and the record.
Advance Booking Required for Tuesday 12th April Meeting
Our Patron, Lord Faringdon, has very kindly agreed to give a talk about his art collections followed by a tour of Buscot House; more details below. This will be a very special visit, as those members who were lucky enough to enjoy an ad hoc tour of Buscot House during a Painting Day in the Park on a hot and sunny June day in 2016, can testify. Thanks to Brian Britton for arranging these events, and to Lord Faringdon for generously giving his time.
Some Notes which apply to both the talk and the tour
Both events require advance booking because numbers are limited. Both events are open to LAS members only; sorry, no guests. Both venues are about 400 yards walk from the car park, cafe and toilets. National Trust membership is not necessary. Times are approximate and will be confirmed later.
If you have already expressed interest in either event by putting your name on a list at the Monthly Meeting (15th February) or Thursday Group (17th February), there is no need to respond to this email.
Talk 2.00pm to 3.00pm, Tuesday 12th April in the Theatre, max 58 people
Lord Faringdon will talk about the art collections in Buscot House (the "Faringdon Collection"), the Dower House at Barnsley (Glos) and his town house in London (mainly sketches). The art deco theatre is situated near the outdoor swimming pool at Buscot House. Members should meet in the main car park at 1.30pm and walk together to the theatre for 2.00pm.
Tour 3.00pm to 4.00pm, Tuesday 12th April in Buscot House, max 30 people
Lord Faringdon will guide you through the Faringdon Collection which is spread throughout the House. If you went on the LAS tour in June 2016 (yes, it was that long ago) then please mention this when booking. Priority will be given to other members if the tour is over-subscribed. The LAS Committee will not take part in this tour so as to allow more places for other members.
Refreshments
Tea, coffee and cake etc will follow from approx 4.00pm in the marquee, opened especially for us. The park and gardens will be open throughout the afternoon so, weather permitting, members can enjoy these as well. They will also be open to the general public from 14.00 to 18.00.
Advance Booking
Please email [email protected] to request a place on the talk and/or tour. If you just want to come for the park/gardens and refreshments, we still need to know numbers so please email the Society. Meet in the car park at 1.30pm.
