Activities and links
Monthly Meetings
A varied programme of talks and demonstrations by invited professional artists and speakers.
Visitors are most welcome to our monthly meetings. Just arrive and register (£4 p.p.) at reception. If you wish to become a member then pick up a form at reception or download from the Membership page.

Thursday Group
An enthusiastic group of between 20 and 30 "regular" members who meet weekly to paint or draw in any medium and to chat and enjoy each others company in a sociable environment
.

Exhibition
The annual exhibition is usually held in August at the New Memorial Hall. It provides an opportunity, over several days, for members to show their work in a formal but friendly exhibition environment. The New memorial Hall is a beautiful modern venue offering a large exhibition space with excellent natural light. Refreshments are always available which encourages our visitors to relax and enjoy their time at the exhibition.

Painting Days
Our painting days are arranged for several dates each year in the area around Lechlade on Thames. We choose venues which offer some indoor cover, in case the weather does not cooperate, and with facilities to prepare drinks, have some lunch and socialise. Sometimes a cafe is available. The day begins at 10.00am and we often work until 4.00pm, especially if the weather is good. Recent favourite locations have been Buscot Park, Buscot village and Coleshill village. We have not been able to hold any painting days this year.

Workshops
Our workshops are run by talented and professional artists often following on from a demonstration at a monthly meeting.  These workshops offer members the opportunity to work in the style of a well-known artist in a particular genre.  Workshops are based on demand and the interest of our members to incorporate new methodology, materials and ideas into their work. Workshops are very popular and numbers are limited in each session,  generally to not more than 12 participants.

Open Studios
These are occasionally arranged and allow visitors to see us at work in a friendly and welcoming environment. In September 2019, we participated, as a collective of 12 artists, in Swindon Open Studios. For more  details:

PAINTING DAYS

No Painting Days are scheduled at the moment. Dates and venues will be advertised here, and at the Thursday Group meetings, when they become available.

WORKSHOPS

The first workshop for almost two years was held on Saturday 15th January 2022 in the Pavilion. Susanna Bailey led a pastels workshop for around twelve members. See Susanna Bailey Workshop for a selection of photographs.

On Saturday 26th March, Roger Jones led a workshop based on his recent demonstration entitled "Reflections, and ‘Reading’ Water". The subject was representing water including movement, reflections, colour and, of course, some of Roger's "tips and tricks". See Roger Jones Workshop for the photographs.

Following her recent captivating watercolour demonstration on Tuesday 15th March, and by popular request, Jill Smith will be leading the next workshop which will be on Saturday 9th July from 10am to 4pm in the Pavilion. Jill describes the workshop in her own words:

'During this practical and relaxed workshop, you will be shown some of the techniques and methods I use when painting in watercolour and you will have time to try these out for yourself. Following the morning coffee break, there will be the opportunity to paint, step-by-step, through either a landscape or flower image. I will provide copies of the reference images and will demonstrate, stage by stage, how to proceed and will then be on hand to advise you as you try it for yourself. If you prefer to work from your own reference material then I will suggest how you might go about tackling the subject and will attempt to help if you need it, within the constraints of the other ongoing demonstrations.'

Please bring your own lunch; hot drinks can be made in the kitchen with the tea, coffee and milk provided. The cost for the day will be £30. If you would like to book a place, or have any questions, please respond to the recent email to all members (sent 27th March). If you are interested, and did not receive this message, please email:

 lechladeartsociety@gmail.com

If you would like to view Jill's work, see the header picture on the Home page and this Gallery. A selection of pictures taken at the recent demonstration on 15th March are available here. Jill also has her own website:

https://www.jillsmithart.co.uk

Further workshops are being planned for later in 2022 and will be advertised here, and at the Thursday Group meetings, as soon as dates and details become available.
If you have  an idea for a specific workshop, or are interested in arranging one, please contact Brian Britton (Secretary) - see the Contact page. Workshops will be  dependent on space and numbers. Members will be given priority.
