As a youngster, a liking to play the piano by ear and singing was encouraged and subsequently, in my teens, I was awarded a scholarship to study at The Guildhall School of Music in London. During this time, I sang with the BBC Symphony Choir taking part in many broadcasts and Prom concerts.
Being a student in London gave me the opportunity to visit the major Galleries and I developed a growing interest in art. But it wasn’t until after teaching music for 20 years, and later a career in Floral Art and Design, that I was encouraged to ‘find my personal voice’ as a painter in oils and pastels. Now retired from being an International Floral Designer, when my working medium was fresh plant material, I revel in the opportunity to paint as an amateur artist with Lechlade art Society. Although I sometimes paint with pastels and acrylics, oils remain my first choice.
