Brian Britton - "DVD Showing"
Tuesday 13 September 2022, 2.00pm to 4.00pm in the Pavilion
The meeting should have been a demonstration by Silvi Schaemloeffel ("Atmospheric Plant Paintings") but Silvi had to cancel because of a serious accident. Instead, Brian stepped in to show a DVD which was enjoyed by just nine members (seven of them on the Committee), a disappointing attendance.
Dr Caroline Palmer Talk - "May Morris and the Arts and Crafts Collections at the Ashmolean Museum"
Tuesday 11 October 2022, 2.00 to 4.00pm in the Pavilion
Caroline, who gave a fascinating talk, writes:
May Morris was William Morris's daughter. This talk will reveal the Ashmolean's little-known holdings of material related to May Morris, the Pissarro family, and other artists associated with the Arts and Crafts movement. We have a large collection of sketches and embroidery patterns that came from Kelmscott Manor and most of this is not yet on our database, so is 'hidden' to the public. I thought it would be good just to let people know what they can see here, and to think about the connections between the various Arts and Crafts artists. I would like to focus on May, as she is a fascinating figure!
