Robert Marchant
I really hated art at school! Nearly twenty years later, I decided that I would like to learn to paint properly and joined an evening class in Swindon. I got the bug and found that Urchfont College, near Devizes, ran excellent courses and painting holidays. I spent a good deal of time there and went with them to Dartmoor and France. Most of my work at that time was in oils. I also did a couple of weekend courses at the Hill College in Abergavenny. When I got married other things took over and my painting lapsed. |
I always promised myself that I would start painting again when I retired but, when the time came, a whole year went by without any art so I decided to enrol in a daytime class. I tried acrylic paints this time and haven't looked back. I joined Lechlade Art Society and since then have rarely missed a Thursday painting session or a monthly demo.
I have discovered that photos of my paintings make attractive greetings cards and have sold lots of these at local craft fairs and other events.
I am always on the lookout for a new subject or a new angle on an old one. I find that painting outdoors and experimenting with other media are excellent ways of broadening the art experience.
