Roger R Jones
Born in Lancashire, of Welsh roots and self taught from youth, I swapped a BBC career of natural history film making for fulltime professional painting in watercolours and oils. Filming and painting share the same disciplines, demands - and excitements. I freely encourage and tutor others to develop their own work - if asked. Over a period of 15 years, I developed and led painting and walking holidays in mainland Spain, Mallorca, Italy, Jersey, Santorini, Morocco, and the UK.
For several years I also tutored at Marlborough College Summer School. Over the same period I contributed to exhibitions of the Royal Society of Marine Artists (RSMA) and Royal Society of Oil Painters (ROI). In 2011 I was awarded the ROI Menena Joy Schwabe award for outstanding painting, adding to other awards gained elsewhere. The ROI is the only national society devoted to oil painting and, after a pause, I will have work on show at this year’s ROI exhibition (2022). I am anticipating a solo show at a more local venue next year.
