Simon Morriss Talk and Demonstration - "Liquid Acrylics"
Tuesday 14 February 2023, 2.00pm to 4.00pm in the Pavilion
LAS member Simon Morriss gave an illustrated talk followed by a demonstration after the break for refreshments. It was a very well attended event with an audience of over 35.
Simon is an artist based in the Cotswolds. He has exhibited with the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour, in the Royal Watercolour Society Contemporary Watercolour Exhibition and at the Royal West of England Academy. In 2012, he was elected an associate member of the Society of Graphic Fine Art and promoted to full membership in 2016. More locally, in Gloucestershire, he is a member of Fosseway Artists.
Simon's talk and demonstration was a well-considered balance between a presentation, which focussed mainly on a mural which he had been commissioned to produce for Cirencester Baptist Church [Chesterton Lane, Cirencester, GL7 1YE], followed by a practical demonstration of some of the techniques involved.
The mural was steeped in research based, in part, on religious medieval paintings, primarily triptych. This was updated by Simon in the initial planning stage to give his work a modern twist incorporating images of landscape linked with figures in a present day setting. After the break, Simon gave a practical demonstration into how he uses linear perspective in his compositions. This was a skilful demonstration drawing much from the expertise which Simon gained from his previous occupation as an architect.
The first picture in the gallery below is the completed mural. This is followed by photographs taken during Simon's demonstration and also some of his other work.
